AUR31120 Certificate III Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of heavy commercial vehicles in the automotive service and repair sector.

Course information

The qualification has been specifically developed to meet the needs of the heavy vehicle automotive industry.

As part of their training, the apprentice is required to perform a range of work including overhaul, service and repair the mechanical parts of road transport vehicles such as the engine, transmission (clutch, gear box and differential) and the suspension systems (springs, steering, brakes, wheels and tyres).

They will repair and service cooling systems, diesel fuel systems, air conditioning, engine forced induction systems and clutch assemblies.

In addition, they will overhaul, repair and service engines, manual and automatic transmissions, air braking systems and final drive assemblies, and repair and service steering and suspension systems.

The repairs of ignition, electronic engine management and electrical systems, and safety/ roadworthy inspections are also encompassed in the heavy vehicle mechanic’s duties.

Successful completion of the course will result in the issuance of a Certificate of Qualification and a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for AUR31120 in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

There is no licensed outcome for this course.

No pre-requisites.

Participants must be employed and registered under a training contract as an apprentice. 

Tec-NQ conducts a learning, literacy and numeracy assessment as part of its enrolment process.

Eligible apprentices who meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee of $1.60*/nominal hour. Certified training is GST free.

Nominal hours for each unit of competency are provided in the training plan.

Fees are set by the Queensland Government department that is responsible for training. Fees are subject to change over the course of an apprenticeship.

Some students may be eligible for concessions. Fee free training is available for apprentices under the age of 25, who commence or are undertaking a priority apprentice or traineeship qualification from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2024.
