NAIDOC Celebrations at Tec-NQ House

Families and friends gathered at Tec-NQ House on Monday 19 August 2024 to join in with NAIDOC Celebrations. The event was jam-packed with culture, dance, art, music, food, yarning and more as family and friends came together to enjoy each other’s company and share in the rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. This year’s NAIDOC theme was ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’.

“Thank you to everyone who made our NAIDOC Celebrations possible. It was a fantastic event that we aim to build on each year,” said Ross Jorgensen, CEO of Tec-NQ.  “A particular thank you to family members who travelled from across Northern and Western Queensland to join with us for our NAIDOC Celebrations, your efforts are very much appreciated,” he added.

A very big thank you to the students from Carinity Education Shalom for their dances and didgeridoo playing, as well as our staff for organising the event and cooking the kangaroo, crocodile, mackerel traditional meals for everyone. NAIDOC Celebrations will be held every year at Tec-NQ House on an alternative week to NAIDOC Week, so families can celebrate at home and again at our students’ home away from home; Tec-NQ House.
