Noah is one of the year 12 students graduating from Tec-NQ this year. Tec-NQ House is located in Rosslea, Townsville accommodating up to 40 boys who are completing year 10, 11 or 12 at Tec-NQ. With a deliberately different approach to senior high school, Tec-NQ House students are supported to find vocational pathways that meet their individual career goals, in addition to completing their Senior School Certificate.
Through volunteer work experience programs across north and west Queensland, students get to test out different industries to see what suits them best. Many students go onto secure school-based apprenticeships where they are paid to learn, before transitioning to full time apprenticeships once they graduate from year 12.
“I chose Tec-NQ because I want an apprenticeship and a year 12 certificate,” said Noah. “Cairns is home for me and I have an electrical apprenticeship up there. I finish year 12 in November 2024 and I plan to go full-time in my apprenticeship,” he added.
When he is progressing his career pathway, Noah enjoys the away trips for work, doing switchboards at schools, switchboards at hospitals and the mix of little and big jobs.
“Tec-NQ has been a great place to make friends, and to get the best of both worlds progressing an apprenticeship and getting the year 12 certificate,” said Noah.
