Tec-NQ Cairns Campus saw its first significant milestone in late 2022, the delivery of our first Capstone Unit. This marks four years of successful Electrotechnology delivery for Tec-NQ in FNQ. The Capstone assessment is an electrician’s final examination challenging their central knowledge and skills. The first cohort included 7 students, with one of whom Harrison Axton, being with Tec-NQ Cairns since the day the doors opened.
Geoff Swanson, Head of Electrical in Cairns said “Thanks to our team at Tec-NQ and the employers of our apprentices for assisting in this program. It has been a process with a few hurdles but resulted in a 100% success rate. We’d like to highlight CEO, Julie Hyde and Head of Boarding, Penny Ross, for allowing the Cairns students to experience the Townsville boarding facility while completing their assessment and exceeding all expectations”.
Exciting times ahead for the Cairns and Mackay campus with the recent launch of a new mobile Capstone facility, eliminating the need for students to travel to complete their assessment. This new unit is a fully functional single bedroom with the same methodology of visual faults as the Townsville Capstone unit for the apprentices to experience.
